Our 1st Anniversary!

Drew and I had our first anniversary May 31st, 2009! We are thrilled to celebrate. It has been a year of many changes and challenges. But I know that the Lord has grown and matured us both. Most of all, we are so thankful for each other. We are so glad to be each others best friend and look forward to many many more years of joys and challenges ahead of us.

We didn't celebrate our anniversary until June 13th. We went up to Grapevine and stayed at the Gaylord Texan Resort. It was so nice. We hung out at the pool, watched TV (we dont have cable so its a big deal to us), and ate really nice food at the Old Hickory Steakhouse. Here are a few pictures:We also got a call from one of Drew's close friends to go to a concert with them in Dallas. The group is called Gaelic Storm and it was awesome! We went out to a pub (of course) for dinner first. Drew enjoyed the perfect meal before hand, fish and chips enjoyed with a pint of Guiness.

We got back to Temple late on Sunday night but we thoroughly enjoyed our weekend together.

The Great Move

The very last day of Drew's first year of med school, the day of his final exam, we finished boxing up and prepared to move to Temple. We are only living in Temple for 10 weeks before moving back to Bryan. Some friends of our were super generous and allowed us to use their guest room to store most of our possessions. The home we are staying in here in Temple is fully furnished, so we didn't have to bring much beyond clothing and toiletries.

So Drew got home from his final exam and helped me finish boxing. We took a much needed break to go to his M1 class party. They had a crawfish boil, swimming, music, etc. It was alot of fun and we regretted that we couldn't stay out longer. We went back home and stayed up til 3am to get 90% of the boxing done.
The next day several very kind friends came over to help us move. They loaded up the Uhaul twice and had the entire contents of our apartment cleared out, cleaned, and in the guest room at our friends house by 3pm! We were all so exhausted and thankful to be done.

Drew and I loaded up the items we were taking to Temple in our rental car. Because ours was still in the shop. When we were packing we just put everything in boxes according to where they
were already in our house, so the few items we needed in Temple were mixed in boxes with other items we didn't need, so we ended up taking alot more with us, than I thought we would.

We were so exhausted and so hungry when we got to Temple at 10pm. Thankfully, we found a Chili's that was open til 11pm. We got food and what tasted like the best margaritas we had ever had.

Here are a few shots of the move:

Car Crash

It was back in the end of April that I (Nicole) got into a bad car crash. I am just fine and we got our car back from the shop a few weeks ago. I was on my way to Dallas for a meeting with a church and hydroplaned on I-45 coming into downtown. I am so thankful for God's protection. I was totally unhurt, despite the airbag deploying and no one else was hit. It was a real miracle. I wish it hadn't happened but, it turned out about as well as could be hoped. FYI - if you are looking for a car Honda Civics are apparently very safe. :)

I almost wish I had pictures of the damages, but I forgot to take any. I am just happy to have our car back now.

I ended up being stranded in Dallas a few days, but I was able to stay with my parents. When I found out the car was going to be in the shop for quite a while my mom agreed to drive me home. It was alot of fun riding in her BMW convertable, except I forgot to put any sunscreen on and I am super white! So when I came home to Drew after being in a car accident and away from one another for 4 days this is what I looked like...
Isn't that one of the most pitiful things you ever saw? Okay, go ahead, you can laugh. I know I look ridiculous. My terrible sunburn did eventually heal and my loving husband stopped making fun of me. :)

Cadaver Ball

I know, its a terrible name. The Cadaver Ball is the name of the medical student formal at Texas A&M Health Science Center. Its a way for the M1s to honor and send off the M2s to the clinical years of school and the M1s get to celebrate making it through their first year.

For Drew and me it was a fun night to get dressed up and hang out with some other med students. Below I have included a few pictures.

Drew and I with two other med students, Eric and Chelsea. (are they not freakishly tall?)The DJs for the evening were really terrible, so after a while some of the students decided karaoke was a great idea.

Drew and me at the end of the evening.
Sorry we have been away from the blog for so long. Its not because nothing was going on, in fact I have several items to catch up on from the end of the school year. Then, we have been busy with a move, chapter camp, and catching up on time with each other during our summer. I will be posting more soon...
